Enter brave new worlds with the 2016 Emirates Airline Festival of Literature Children’s Programme!
This year, we welcome beloved illustrators, master story-tellers and Festival favourites to enthral, inspire and even terrify you (but only a little). Whether you’re a young adult or the tiniest tot, we are sure you are going to have an excellent time!
Delve into the fantastic stories of bestselling author Jacqueline Wilson or enjoy the beautiful illustrations Jim Kay has created for Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Be enchanted by Ahlam Bsharat’s My Nom de Guerre is Butterfly and shiver at the Saga of Darren Shan and the science of Nick Arnold.
At the Festival, you can meet Curtis Jobling, the man behind Bob the Builder; dive into the world of comics with Alaa the Bounty Hunter by Shihab Al Deen Al Musharaf and join Anthony Horowitz’s Alex Rider or Korky Paul’s Winnie the Witch on astounding adventures. You could also meet the creator of Charlie and Lola, Lauren Child.
Are you a geek at heart? Celebrate your inner geek with Holly Smale’s Geek Girl and let 18-year-old author Sean Fay Wolfe’s unofficial Minecraft books thrill you. For those more classically-inclined, prepare to be amazed by Marcia Williams and her illustrated adaptations of Shakespeare’s greatest plays.
Animal-lovers are in for a particular treat this year with Julia Johnson, Gill Lewis and Lauren St John. And, of course, our Festival favourites, Rachel Hamilton, Maitha Al Khayat and Sahar Naja Mahfouz return for wild hijinks with their characters.

Don’t forget our fantastic free events – catch the fabulous Fringe performances at the Triangle Theatre Stage by the Waterfront, InterContinental Hotel or at the Festival City Mall stage. Young ones can also delight in the wonderful stories being read in the Time Out Story Corner, throughout the Festival weekend – isn’t that the perfect way to unwind after the Festival excitement?
