Hi, I’m Lina LitFest, the new mascot for the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature. If you’ve ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes at your favourite literature festival, look no further!
Lina: What exactly does a Festival Coordinator do?
I answer calls and queries regarding the Festival, print Festival Friends cards, work on the database and distribution of all Litfest material and all company flyers. I also update the attendance sheets and help to co-ordinate interviews. I am responsible for ordering stationary and printing badges for staff, authors, moderators, hosts and other badges required for the festival. Festival Coordinator is part of (the) Operations Team and acts as a support to the team.
Lina: What’s a typical day for you?
I work from 8 to 5. Usually when we are not closer to the festival I am acting as a support to the team and also responsible for answering calls. Closer to the festival I am more busy with other things along with answering calls, such as distributing festival collaterals to schools and sponsors, selling tickets for those who walk into the office to buy tickets and other miscellaneous tasks.
Lina: Who are you most looking forward to seeing at #EAFOL16?
Chris Hadfield and Chris Cleave.
Lina: Tell me about your favourite book.
Many Masters Many Lives by Dr Brian Weiss and The Power of Your Subconscious Mind by Dr Joseph Murphy are my favourite non-fiction books. Many Masters Many Lives is about psychotherapist Dr Brian Weiss and his endeavour to help cure a patient who is suffering from past-life trauma. The Power of Your Subconscious Mind is a self-help book about the conscious and subconscious mind. This book helped me to understand many things taught to me and habits inculcated in me as a kid.
I am not a big fan of fiction but recently I read 172 Hours of the Moon by Johan Harstad, which kept me glued to my chair – it’s great! It’s a sci-fi/horror about three teenagers who are the first young people to enter space.
Lina: If you could be any character in a book, who would you be?
I am a nonfiction lover. There are many personalities which appealed to me for various reasons. But M. C. Mary Kom is the one whom I appreciate the most. She proved that if you have a will power and wish to achieve your goal what all you can do against all odds. She’s an Indian boxer and the author and protagonist of the autobiography Unbreakable.
