Handbook-of-British-BirdsTim Cleeves is a renowned ornithologist and co-writer of the bestselling RSPB Handbook of British Birds and Birds New to Britain 1980-2004. He has over twenty-five years’ experience in UK countryside issues and management and has served as a volunteer with two Wildlife Trusts and worked for the Department of the Environment as a Wildlife Act Inspector.

In 1983, Cleeves joined the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB), Europe’s largest conservation charity, as Assistant Regional Officer, in the Midlands Region and in 1987 he was promoted to join the North of England RSPB regional team as the first Conservation Officer. He served as chair of the Tyne and Wear Nature Conservation Strategy Working Group for two years and was a member of the Industry and Conservation Association (INCA) on Teeside. He also sat on County Durham’s Local Agenda 21 Round Table Group for Economic Development and Industry.

Cleeves has acted as spokesperson for RSPB on a wide range of conservation issues, and has been interviewed for live and recorded radio and TV interviews.

He has also been a tour leader for Wildwings holidays, specialising in trips to the South Atlantic and China
