An Emirati born in Dubai, Maha Gargash studied abroad in Washington D. C. and London. With her degree in Radio/Television, she joined Dubai Television to pursue her interest in television documentaries.
After over 20 years’ experience in directing, scripting, and presenting television documentaries and features, mainly to do with traditional local societies, she decided to write her first novel, The Sand Fish, published in 2009. It enjoyed a lively following and interest and is now being made into a film. Set in the 1950s in what is now the United Arab Emirates, it tells the poignant and powerful story of a rebellious young woman trapped in a repressive society.
Her second novel, That Other Me, is a dynamic take on the little-known Khaleeji, Gulf-Arab culture. It is to be released worldwide by Harper Collins, New York, in January 2016.
