Hilary Crystal works from her home in Holyhead, North Wales, with her husband David. She practised for several years as a speech therapist, working mainly with children with special needs, and spent a year as a research assistant on a Medical Research Council project at Reading University.

From the mid-1980s until 2006 she was a quality-control editor for the Cambridge and Penguin families of encyclopaedias.

She has co-authored three books with her husband: Words on Words, John Bradburne’s Mutemwa in Poems and Pictures and Wordsmiths and Warriors: The English-Language Tourist’s Guide to Britain, and has designed several poetry anthologies for Holy Island Press and the John Bradburne Memorial Society.

Her first novel for children, The Memors, was published in 2014, and a second, The Mirrinth, will be out later this year.
