Gorilla-DawnBefore she could walk, Gill Lewis was discovered force-feeding bread to a sick hedgehog under the rose bushes. Now her stories reflect her passion for wild animals in wild places. She draws inspiration from many of the people she has had the fortune to meet during her work as a vet, both at home and abroad.

Lewis has a Master’s degree in Writing for Young People from Bath Spa University and won the 2009 course prize for most promising writer.

Her first novel, Sky Hawk, was snapped up for publication within hours of being offered to publishers. Her books Wild Wings and One White Dolphin were critically acclaimed and both won the Green Earth Book Award. She has also won the German Environmental Prize of Children’s Literature.

Lewis’ upcoming book, Gorilla Dawn, tells the story of two children and a gorilla who are trying to escape imprisonment without being caught. Her latest series is The Puppy Academy, the first of which was launched in July 2015; the second will follow in October 2015. The next two books in the series will be published in 2016.

Lewis lives in Somerset with her family and menagerie of animals, and writes from a tree-house, in the company of squirrels.
