Everyone Brave is ForgivenChris Cleave was born in 1973 and graduated from Balliol College, Oxford with a First in Experimental Psychology. His first novel Incendiary won the Somerset Maugham award, the Book-of-the-Month Club’s First Fiction award and the Prix Spécial du Jury at the French Prix des Lecteurs. It was described by the Washington Post as ‘a mesmerizing tour de force’.

His second novel, the Costa-shortlisted The Other Hand, was a global bestseller and sat in the New York Times Top Ten bestseller list for over a year (under the US title Little Bee). Both Incendiary and The Other Hand were shortlisted for the Commonwealth Writers’ Prizes.

Cleave’s third novel, Gold, was published in June 2012 to widespread praise, with Publishers Weekly calling it ‘thrillingly written and emotionally rewarding’.

His newest novel, Everyone Brave is Forgiven, will be published in 2016. Set during World War II, it is a story of ‘love, loss, prejudice and incredible courage’.

Cleave has been a barman, a long-distance sailor and teacher of marine navigation, an internet pioneer and a journalist. He lives in Kingston-upon-Thames with his wife and three children, and welcomes readers to visit his website and leave comments on his work.
